Amid lockdowns due to COVID-19 in China, Apple is now reportedly planning to begin the mass production of the upcoming AirPods Pro 2nd-Generation in Vietnam.
An analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a tweet thread that Vietnam is a successful case for mass production of Apple’s major products outside China.
Kuo expects the AirPods Pro 2nd-generation mass production will get benefit from a relatively not complicated supply chain and the country’s better production environment that includes infrastructure and workforce as compared to other countries outside China.
As NPI (New Product Introduction) of AirPods Pro 2nd-Generation is still in China, it will not become easy to establish a complete new non-China manufacturing plant in Vietnam, Kuo said in a tweet.
The current AirPods manufacturers Luxshare and Goertek are also setting up their facilities in Vietnam instead of India, which can reduce the risks of geopolitical issues.
Lastly, he mentioned that as the next year’s iPhone 15 lineup as well as other Apple products and accessories will feature USB-C, the AirPods Pro 2nd-generation is still expected to support the Lightning port.
