Apple TV officially reveals the debut of the new (currently untitled) Apple Original Film, featuring the story of the legendary “haenyeo” from Jeju Island, South Korea.
“The film tells the story of “Korea’s mermaids,” elderly free divers whose work catching seafood off the coast of Jeju Island has supported their community for generations,” Apple describes.
The new documentary will show how sea women as well as the youngest lineages helped to revive the revered and often dangerous lifestyle of their ancestors as the numbers of haenyeo’s have been decreasing for the last few years.
The film story is produced by Malala Yousafzai and Erika Kennair from Extracurricular, which is a company of women’s rights activists, and A24, which is also one of the most popular television production companies.
However, the exact premiere date of the upcoming new docuseries featuring “haenyeo” is currently unclear. You can know more in the official press release.
