Apple TV announces new “Emancipation” Apple Original Film alongside released official trailer

On October 3, Apple TV officially announced and released the first official trailer of the new Apple Original Film — “Emancipation,” starring Will Smith.

“Inspired by the gripping true story of a man who would do anything for his family — and for freedom. When Peter enslaved a man, risks his life to escape and return to his family, he embarks on a perilous journey of love and endurance,” Apple describes.

The film is inspired by the 1863 photos of “Whipped Peter,” taken during a Union Army medical examination, that first appeared in Harper’s Weekly.

“Emancipation” stars Will Smith, Ben Foster, Mustafa Shakir, Gilbert Owuor, Michael Luwoye, Charmaine Bingwa, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Grant Harvey, Aaron Moten, and Steven Ogg.

The new Apple Original Film is directed by Antoine Fuqua, written by Bill Collage, and produced by Will Smith, Todd Black, Jon Mone, and Joey McFarland.

“Emancipation” will globally premiere in theatres on December 2 and release on Apple TV+ on December 9. You can know more about the new film in the official press release.
