On Tuesday, September 14, Apple launched the latest iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini along with more major announcements at the California streaming event.
The new baseline iPhone models have an exact identical outer durable design as its predecessor iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini but major improvements in internals with the most advanced, powerful, and fastest processor, larger batteries, stunning new camera capabilities, smaller notch, and comes with its bigger brothers iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Identical Durable Design
iPhone 13 has a sleek flat-edge design identical to their previous models that people love and protected with incredibly durable Apple’s exclusive Ceramic Shield front that is tougher than any other smartphone glass and has industry-leading IP68 dust and water-resistant rating.
The brand new substructure iPhone model now has new look with the most advanced dual rear cameras arranged diagonally. The aerospace-grade aluminum frame is beautifully formed and gives a classic look in an all-new Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and PRODUCT (RED) finishes.
The front design with the TrueDepth camera system has been re-engineered with a smaller notch to provide more display area. The world’s most secure Face ID authentication biometric system now fits into 20% smaller space.
Inside iPhone 13 has been entirely re-architectured to make more room for advanced hardware technologies and bigger batteries. This elegant look is the same across two sizes for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.
New iPhones are also designed with the environment in mind using many recycled materials like, the antenna lines are use upcycled water bottles.
Both new iPhone models feature the most advanced Super Retina XDR display, a 6.1-inch size for iPhone 13 and a 5.4-inch screen size for iPhone 13 mini that is now 28% brighter and up to 800 nits of brightness for a brilliant viewing experience even when outside and while watching HDR photos and videos, the peak brightness goes higher at 1200 nits.
Users can enjoy pixel-precision brightness for longer by taking the advantage of display’s improved power efficiency. Also, people will see true blacks in photos, videos, and games with an incredible contrast ratio of Apple’s OLED display.
The new brighter Super Retina XDR display delivers an immersive viewing experience with the support of Dolby Vision, HDR 10, and HLG (Hybrid log-gamma).
Apple extended its lead by powering the latest A15 Bionic chip that innovates the entire system to deliver more performance and power efficiency. The A15 Bionic uses 5-nanometer technology that includes 15 billion transistors.
It easily handles the most demanding and heavy workloads smoothly and efficiently thanks to the new powerful new 6-core CPU with 2 high-performance and 2 high-efficiency cores. Apple increased the performance of its CPU dedicated machine learning accelerators that power experiences such as advanced text-to-speech in Siri and on-device processing directions in Maps.
The A15 Bionic is simply the fastest CPU on any smartphone up to 50% faster than any flagship smartphone processor. For graphics incentive tasks like playing high-quality games, the newest chipset features the latest 4-core GPU enabling more eye-catching visuals, and it delivers up to 30% faster graphics and the new 16-core Neural Engine is perfect for ML (Machine Learning) tasks.
Now, it is capable of an outstanding 15.8 trillion operations per second, this unique vision and integration bring to life leading capabilities in video and image processing.
Most Advanced Dual-Cameras
The new A15 Bionic combines Apple’s powerful cameras with the next-generation image signal processer and computational photography to create the most advanced dual rear camera system.
The all-new 12MP wide-angle camera allows users to take capture stunning pictures and videos in any situation. It gathers 47% more light for less noise and brighter results in photos and videos. This is enabled by larger 1.7-micron pixels to capture more light and f/1.6 aperture and Apple says, it’s the biggest sensor in its dual-camera system.
As on the last year’s iPhone 12 Pro Max, the incredible sensor-shift optical image stabilization now comes to the latest iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. The new larger sensor with OIS captures 50% more light and night modes pictures are even more impressive, taking sharper images of subjects and fine details.
Also, the custom-designed new 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens will reveal more of the dark areas with less noise. And on the front, it has now a much better TrueDepth camera even in low-light shoots.
Stunning New Video Capabilities
The iPhone 13 brings a brand new video feature called “Cinematic mode,” it’s a technique called rack focus that requires skill, planning, and creative vision used in all films, a whole new dimension to storytelling now on an iPhone in an intuitive way to capture cinema-styled moments without being a professional filmmaker.
The Cinematic mode will hold the focus on the subject even while moving, focus transitions happen automatically in real-time from one subject to another. Cinematic mode understands when a subject enters a frame and intelligently racks focus on it and when the subject gazes away from the camera, iPhone itself changes focus and then back, an automatic focus changes.
To create these automatic focus changes, Apple extensively studied the art of cinematography, and combined those learning with computational algorithms, so, users can effortlessly create cinema-grade videos. For recording controls, you can tap to shift focus at any time and tap again to lock and track focus on the subject.
Cinematic mode shoots in Dolby Vision HDR that enabled by Apple-custom sensor and the incredible power of A15 Bionic which grades each frame in Dolby Vision live while you recording.
5G With Lastest Faster Speeds
Currently, people are already experiencing 5G every day for super fast downloads and uploads speeds and lower latency. And with iPhone 13, custom-designed antennas and radio components enabled more 5G bands.
So, iPhone 13 works on 5G with the latest faster speeds in more places. Apple collaborating with more carrier partners for the best call quality, performance, coverage, and battery life. And by the end of this year, the company committed to double 5G support to more than 200 carriers in 60 countries and regions.
Improved Battery Life
With help of the most advanced capabilities, Apple confirms that most users will experience 1.5 hours better battery life on iPhone 13 mini as compared to its predecessor iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 will remain 2.5 hours longer than iPhone 12 for all-day battery life thanks to bigger batteries.
The Smart Data mode has been intelligent conserves battery life by automatically shifting the iPhone to LTE when 5G speeds aren’t needed.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini includes the support of MagSafe and its all accessories, including, multi-chargers, swiveling chargers stands, cases, wallets, tripods, and car mounts alongside Apple’s own accessories like MagSafe Battery Pack.
For iPhone 13, Apple introduced leather, silicone, and clear cases in stunning new colors. Apple also released a new MagSafe Leather Wallet that supports Find My to be notified of the last known location where the wallet separated from the iPhone.
Storage, Pricing, and Availability
For doubled storage upgrade, Apple increased the starting storage capacity to 128GB and added a new 512GB configuration.
As the previous year’s baseline iPhone lineup, iPhone 13 still starts at $799 and iPhone 13 mini is available at $699 for the base 128GB storage variant.
Customers can pre-order all models of the iPhone 13 family starting this Friday, September 17, and will be available from 24 September.
