Apple is now speculated to feature always-on display mode on its upcoming high-end flagship iPhone 14 Pro models with the next generation of iOS.
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman outlines that among the new capabilities on new Apple platforms, iOS 16 will include an enhanced lock screen with “wallpapers that have widget-like capabilities.”
These enhancements are reportedly under the groundwork for future updates, including always-on display mode but specifically for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Gurman claims that Apple is continuously working on the development of the new “always-on mode” for this year’s Pro iPhone models, which will provide “quickly glanceable information — similar to newer Apple Watches.”
A display analyst Ross Young also said that ProMotion display technology will utilize on the iPhone 14 Pro models and will be capable of dropping refresh rates as low as 1Hz while viewing a static image or the device is in an inactive condition, which enables always-on display mode.
As Apple will unveil the new feature in its upcoming iOS 16, which will announce at WWDC 2022 on June 6 alongside other major new Apple platforms, the feature will be enabled at the time of the launch of the new iPhone lineup in September.
