On 17th August, the search engine giant officially unveiled its new, mid-range, and low-cost Google Pixel 5a with 5G and the same design as its predecessor Pixel 4a 5G.
This year, Google has done very few changes to its low-cost Pixel, meaning, most of the things are the same as Pixel 4a which was originally announced on 3rd August last year. And after some time, Google has launched the 5G model of Pixel 4a on September 20, 2020.
However, Google has done some changes in this year’s Pixel 5a, including a slightly larger display, significant improvement in battery capacity, and new material utilized for the body of the device, and apart from these, all the other components and features are almost identical to Pixel 4a 5G like processor, cameras, and outer physical look.
So, here are the complete major details about Google’s budget-friendly mid-range Pixel 5a smartphone.
Google Pixel 5a 5G Design
One of the major changes that we can be able to notice while holding the Pixel 5a in hand is that now it has metal unibody construction which feels like rubberized material and it is improved from the previous Pixel 4a 5G that have an overall design, including side frames, made from hard plastic.
The design material feels very grippy and provides a more premium in-hand feel while holding it and it is also now more durable as compared to the previous predecessor models.
A Slightly Larger Display
The new Pixel 5a has a 6.34-inch Full HD+ OLED display with up to 90Hz refresh rate and a pixel resolution of 413 PPI (Pixel Per Inch), 20:9 aspect ratio, HDR support, and protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, while its predecessor Pixel 4a 5G was featured a slightly smaller 6.2-inch display.
Identical Cameras As Predecessor
The cameras of the Google Pixel 5a 5G are the same as Pixel 4a 5G with a dual rear camera setup on the back, including a 12.2-megapixel wide-angle primary lens with the aperture of f/1.7 and a 16MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with f/2.2 aperture. And this time, for some reason, Google removed the laser autofocus sensor from the rear camera module.
The benefit of the ultra-wide lens of the latest Pixel 5a is, now it has a 118.7-degree field-of-view (FoV) which is slightly wider than 117-degree FoV on Pixel 4a 5G.
On the front, Google also features 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture in punch-hole camera design placed at the top left corner of the Pixel device, which is also exact identical to Pixel 4a 5G.
As the Pixel 4a 5G, the new Pixel 5a 5G is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G octa-core processor connected with Adreno 620 GPU. It has 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of storage configuration, comes with IP67 dust and water-resistant rating, and weighs 183 grams.
The new Pixel is packed with a 4680 mAh battery capacity with 18W of fast charging support which is a significant improvement as compared to the 3885 mAh battery capacity on Pixel 4a 5G.
The new Pixel 5a 5G could be the last Pixel to ship with including charger in the box because Google reportedly confirmed that as the move Apple and Samsung, the company will not provide the charger in the box of the upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Pricing and Availability
Google Pixel 5a 5G is launched at $449 of affordable mid-range price point for the base and only one 6GB RAM and 128GB storage option in a new color that Google called “Mostly Black,” which is also slightly different from “Just Black” on Google Pixel 4a 5G.
As Google previously announced, it will only be available for the customers of the United States and Japan. The pre-orders already begin and the availability will be started from 26th August.
