Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro to Support 5 Years of Security Updates

A mobile retailer provides major details about the flagship Pixels’ updates timeline that the latest Pixel 6 will be arriving with the support of 5 years of security updates.

A mobile retailer based in London, United Kingdom “Carphone Warehouse” confirms that both Google’s latest Android flagship Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be able to get security updates at least for 5 years. (first reported by 9to5Google)

The extended software update timeline allows Google to leave behind complete Android competition in terms of security updates which currently provides up to 4 years of updates. This upgrade is the result of the power efficiency of the brand new custom-developed Tensor and Titan M2 security chip.

If this new change will happen, it will become a significant upgrade from the previous Pixel devices which are only limited to get updates for up to 3 years. The Google Pixel 2 that was launched in November 2017, supports security patches for up to 2 years, and Pixel 3 was announced in October 2018 and is eligible to get security updates for up to 3 years.

The marketing platform also saying that the custom-designed Tensor chip will be 80% faster than the previous processor on Pixel devices and its new 50MP primary camera lens on both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be able to capture 150% more light as compared to Pixel 5 and Pixel 5XL.

Although, Google currently hasn’t mentioned for how long term its latest Pixels will be getting the support major Android OS updates which are expected around for 3 or rare chances of up to 4 years. But until then, let’s see what will happen on October 19 at the official launch event.
